Eco Spotlight On Bebe Cannelle

We love mum run businesses, and mumpreneurs are among our favorite people at The Green Baby Spot. So when I was contacted by Fanny Abitbol, who started Bebe Cannelle so that she could be home to raise her daughter, I was thrilled to do an eco-spotlight feature on her business. As usual, we had a nice chat with Fanny, and here’s what she had to say:

1.    Who is Bebe Canelle and what do they do?

Bebe Cannelle is a mother-run online shop selling modern, fashionable, yet natural and healthy baby products. We have baby clothes, kids t-shirts, baby carriers, leather soft shoes, skin care, nursing tops, amber teething necklaces and more.

2.    How long has Bebe Canelle been in operation?

I officially launched the Bebe Cannelle website on 1st January2008.

3.    Why the name Bebe Canelle, is there a story behind it?

I wanted to add a French twist to the name of my website. Cannelle means cinnamon, it is a heart-warming spice that smells delicious (I use it a lot when baking!).

4.    Why did you decide to start Bebe Cannelle?

I decided to set up my own business because it was important for me to be able to stay at home and take care of my daughter Rachel.

I love shopping for my baby and found a lot of products that made people scream “I want it! Where did you buy that?”.  So I decided to gather all my favourite products and start selling them. The first find was the LanaCare merino wool balaclava. It is not sold in UK. I am importing it from Denmark and it is now a bestseller: great for hat-hating babies or for mothers who carry their babies on their back.

5.    Tell me a bit about the products you sell and the inspiration for choosing them?

I have a strong commitment to my customers which is that I only sell a product if I am using it myself. I am a strong breastfeeding advocate and have a passion for babywearing and natural fabrics. So BebeCannelle.com is the place to find stylish nursing tops, quality baby carriers and organic wool, cotton and bamboo baby clothes. Then, because I wanted Rachel to get nice and healthy soft shoes, I did my research about natural leather and found the vegetable tanned Pololo shoes to add to the BebeCannelle range. Lastly, as I have been using Weleda skin care since I am a child, it seems only natural to add Weleda organic skin care to BebeCannelle.com. I also recently discovered more skin care brands that are now part of the natural & organic skin care collection.

Bebe Cannelle’s mission is also to carry “mother-made” or “mother-designed” products and most of our products have been conceived by mothers.

6.    What’s your favourite must have product?

My must-have product is the Broderie Noire Soft Baby Carrier. I love it so much I am carrying my 2 year old daughter in it everyday. It has been conceived by two mothers, is ethically made in UK, and you can use it to carry your baby from 3 months to 3 years. Broderie Noire Soft Baby Carrier is beautiful and dad-friendly. The fabric is 100% buttery soft corduroy, it is very easy to use and has been conceived to provide an optimal anatomic position for baby’s hips and spine:

7.    Do you offer any special services you’d like to tell our readers about?

I would like to offer 5% discount for the baby spot readers. Simply quote “GreenBabySpot” at checkout.

8.    Some of our readers live outside the UK, do you offer shipping outside the UK?

BebeCannelle.com delivers worldwide and half of our customers are outside the UK.

9.    What do you enjoy most about working at Bebe Canelle?

Working for BebeCannelle.com is my window to the world. I love being in contact with so many wonderful mothers asking me advice about babywearing or breatsfeeding.

10. Do you have any gems of wisdom regarding organic/green/eco-living to share with our readers?

Raising a child the eco-conscious way means for me “less waste”. So Rachel is wearing cloth-nappies, is not overhwelmed with toys, has less clothes but quality ones, is carried in a baby carrier when I take public transport (we don’t use a car) and has never been fed “baby food” (we did Baby Led Weaning with real foods).

Visit Bebe Canelle to see all the great eco- friendly mum and baby products they carry. Don’t forget to take advantage of the 5% discount by quoting TheGreenBabySpot at check out!
